Sophie Munro Signs New Deal

Essex Cricket are pleased to announce that Essex Women’s seam bowler Sophie Munro has signed a contract extension with the Club.

Munro, 25, has put pen to paper on a two-year extension that will keep her at Essex until the end of the 2028 season.

The right-arm seamer signed for Essex from The Blaze in 2025 and has represented the Club in 16 List A matches and 12 T20s.

On signing her new contract, Munro, said: "I am extremely excited to extend my stay with Essex.

”I have really enjoyed the previous two seasons, and I am looking forward to continuing to develop my cricket under Stephen Parry and the coaching staff.

“I am very excited to see where our squad can get to in the next couple of years and hopefully, we will be competing for trophies.”

Across her appearances for Essex, Munro has taken 12 wickets in the 50-over competition and 13 wickets in T20 cricket. An impressive display in the shorter format against Northamptonshire in the Vitality County Cup quarter-final this season saw her record best figures of 3-33, helping Essex Women secure their place at the County Cup Finals Day.

Munro was also selected for the Trent Rockets in this year’s Hundred competition as an injury replacement and was part of the squad that lifted the title.

Essex Women’s Head Coach, Stephen Parry, added: “I am really happy to see Sophie extend her stay with the Club and put pen to paper on a new deal.

“She is an exciting cricketer to watch and is highly skilled with the ball. She has taken some important wickets at key moments when the team has needed them.

“Sophie has been unfortunate with injuries over the past couple of seasons, but when fit, her ability is clear to see. I look forward to working with Sophie over the winter alongside my coaching staff to help her develop further and ensure she hits the ground running in 2027, which I know she is more than capable of doing.”
