BackIndia and West Indies will face each other in the fifth and final T20I of the series in Bengaluru on Saturday (October 17). With the series tied at 2-2, both teams will look to win the final match and take the series home.
The batters have dominated the series so far, and another high-scoring match is expected. The team batting first could once again aim for a total of more than 200 runs. Dew may also play an important role in Bengaluru, making the toss an important factor.
India have added experienced fast bowler Bhuvneshwar Kumar to their squad for the series decider. Arshdeep Singh suffered a shoulder injury during the fourth T20I and remains doubtful for the final match. Bhuvneshwar is likely to replace him in the playing XI.
Ahead of the series decider, here is a look at India’s predicted playing XI for the fifth T20I against West Indies.
Sanju Samson and Abhishek Sharma are likely to continue as India’s opening pair. Samson returned to form in the fourth T20I, scoring 56 runs off just 23 balls. He maintained a strike rate of 243.48 before getting out during the powerplay.
India will expect both openers to give the team a strong start in the series decider. Abhishek will also be keen to make a big contribution at the top of the order.
Vaibhav Sooryavanshi has remained on the bench throughout the series and is unlikely to get an opportunity in the final match.
Ishan Kishan is expected to bat at number three, followed by captain Shreyas Iyer. Tilak Varma is likely to take the number five position.
India will need their middle-order batters to step up in the must-win match. While the top order has shown its ability to score quickly, the middle order will have to maintain the momentum and help India post a big total.
With the series on the line, Ishan, Shreyas and Tilak will be important players for India.
Naman Dhir, Axar Patel and Nitish Kumar Reddy are likely to retain their places in the playing XI.
Nitish scored an impressive 41 runs off just 20 balls in the fourth T20I. However, his effort was not enough to take India to victory. He also had a difficult outing with the ball, conceding 39 runs in his three overs.
Nitish will look to make a bigger impact with both bat and ball in the final match. Axar and Naman will also have important roles to play as India aim to win the series.
Bhuvneshwar Kumar is likely to replace Arshdeep Singh if the left-arm fast bowler fails to recover from his shoulder injury in time for the match.
Bhuvneshwar’s experience could prove valuable at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. He knows the conditions well and could help India control the opposition’s scoring, especially during the powerplay and at the death.
The experienced pacer is also set to travel to New Zealand with India’s T20I squad after the fifth match.
Apart from this possible change, India are expected to retain the rest of their bowling attack. Prince Yadav and Mayank Yadav are likely to keep their places in the team.
India are likely to make one change to their playing XI for the series decider, with Bhuvneshwar Kumar coming in for the injured Arshdeep Singh.
India’s predicted playing XI: Shreyas Iyer (captain), Sanju Samson, Abhishek Sharma, Ishan Kishan, Tilak Varma, Naman Dhir, Nitish Kumar Reddy, Axar Patel, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Prince Yadav and Mayank Yadav.
