South Africa have dropped to third in the World Test Championship standings following their 214-run defeat to Australia in Durban.

New Zealand have moved above the Proteas into second place, leaving the defending champions outside the two qualifying positions for the 2027 final.

South Africa’s points percentage fell from 75% to 60% after their second defeat in five Tests during the current cycle. They remain on 36 points, with three victories.

Australia strengthened their position at the top, moving to 81.82% with nine wins from 11 matches. New Zealand sit second on 72.22%, having collected 52 points from six Tests.

The standings are determined by the percentage of available points earned, allowing teams to be compared despite playing different numbers of Tests. A win is worth 12 points, a draw four and a tie six, with the top two teams progressing to the final.

Bangladesh are fourth on 55.56%, ahead of India on 51.52%. England, Sri Lanka, West Indies and Pakistan occupy the remaining positions.

The Proteas still have two Tests against Australia to recover ground. Their remaining fixtures in the cycle also include two Tests each against Bangladesh and Sri Lanka, and three against England.
