Dale Earnhardt Jr. had a warning for Sam Mayer after the young NASCAR star let his feelings on the other drivers on the grid be known.

Dale Earnhardt Jr. made his thoughts clear on Sam Mayer's angry outburst after finishing 23rd in the Blue Cross NC 300.

Driving one of the faster cars at Charlotte, Mayer ran near the front of the pack for much of the night, though there was a restart that came on Lap 191 of 200. The NASCAR star then had an incident with Jeremy Clements in Turn 4, with additional contact pushing him further down.

As a result, Mayer had choice words for his fellow drivers on the grid, which in turn led to a response from Earnhardt, who will be the 23-year-old's boss starting next season.

"I don't know. He's mad. Sam's a good driver but, man, he's made his own mistakes," Earnhardt said during a recent episode of the Dale Jr. Download. "I think in those moments, you can be made and say, 'God dang, I'm mad at this person.' ... But you can't throw a blanket on the field and say the whole field sucks because now you've basically got the whole field hating you."

The NASCAR legend added, "He just made things harder for him. Because now, if anybody was going to cut him a break, they're less likely to. ... You can't say the whole field sucks. You just can't."

Notably, Mayer will be driving for Earnhardt's JR Motorsports next season and the NASCAR Hall of Famer admitted that the team could use the comments in some way.

"Hey, we can give him a hard time," the legend joked on his show. "He's coming to JR Motorsports next year so we can give him some s---t. ... Let's get him in the studio and put his feet to the fire. See if he would tell us about what happened on the track."

Earnhardt's response came after Mayer, incensed by how his race ended, took a moment to air his frustrations and let his feelings out to reporters.

"We were really good. The Cardiac Chevy from HFT was really fast. Yeah, just didn't get the finish we deserved," Mayer began, according to Frontstretch. From there, he unleashed his true feelings on the race and his fellow drivers at Charlotte.

"Everyone in this series sucks. There's nobody worth anything past 10th place. It's atrocious. I hate it. It's annoying. Got to be better. I don't know," Mayer said.

He added, "Everyone just crashes at the end of these races, and it just doesn't make sense to me. We can't go another 10 laps without getting into each other. It was a clean race, all race, and at the end of these races, everyone just loses their minds, and it's just pathetic ... Just expressing the frustration at that end with the tire going down."
