BackShadman Islam has been taken to hospital for an MRI scan and further assessment after twisting his ankle while fielding on Day 2 of the second Test against West Indies in Sylhet.
The Bangladesh opener sustained the injury in the 78th over of the first innings when he chased the ball after Amir Jangoo had played it towards fine leg. He slipped while attempting to pick it up and appeared to be in considerable discomfort as he was stretchered off the field. He is currently under observation, with a decision on his availability expected after the MRI report.
"He twisted his left ankle and was taken to hospital for an MRI scan," BCB physio Bayzediul Islam said in a statement.
A member of the team management told Cricbuzz that Shadman is unlikely to take any further part in the ongoing Test. "Look, I think it will be difficult for him to make a comeback in the Test match. Let's hope for the best but we are not very confident about his availability,” he said.
Bangladesh will not be able to bring in a concussion substitute if Shadman is ruled out of the remainder of the Test, as his injury is unrelated to the head. They would therefore have to continue with only 10 players for the rest of the match.
West Indies lead the two-match Test series 1-0.
