Delhi Capitals (DC) have made another significant addition to their coaching setup ahead of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2027 season, bringing back a former player to strengthen their support staff. The appointment comes amid a major overhaul of the franchise’s backroom staff, with several former international cricketers joining the setup to prepare the team for the upcoming campaign.

Veteran leg-spinner Amit Mishra has returned to Delhi Capitals as their new spin bowling coach. The franchise confirmed his appointment through a post on X, welcoming the experienced campaigner back to the team where he began his IPL journey in 2008. Mishra will take up his first IPL coaching role following his retirement from professional cricket in September 2026. He brings extensive experience to the position, having played 162 matches across 16 seasons and represented four franchises, whcih were Delhi Daredevils, Deccan Chargers, Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) and Lucknow Super Giants (LSG).

The 43-year-old finished his IPL career with 174 wickets, including a best bowling performance of 5/17. He also holds the record for the most hat-tricks in IPL history, having taken three for three different teams. The appointment is part of a wider shake-up at Delhi Capitals, who have brought in several former international cricketers to strengthen their coaching group. Former India captain Sourav Ganguly will lead the setup as head coach, while Yuvraj Singh has been appointed assistant and batting coach.

Sri Lankan legend Chaminda Vaas has also joined as fast bowling coach, replacing Munaf Patel, who held the position for the previous two seasons. Vaas claimed 355 wickets in Test cricket and 400 in ODIs during his international career, adding considerable experience to the support staff.

Mishra’s appointment could also prove beneficial for Delhi’s spin options ahead of the new season. New recruit Zeeshan Ansari, a left-arm wrist spinner who arrived in a trade deal with Sunrisers Hyderabad involving T Natarajan, will have an experienced coach to work with.

Leg-spinners Vipraj Nigam and Rehan Ahmed could also benefit from his guidance if Delhi Capitals retain them for IPL 2027. With his extensive experience and record in the tournament, Mishra will look to help the franchise strengthen its spin attack as it prepares for the upcoming season.
