Former India cricketer Amit Mishra has recalled an on-field argument with current India head coach Gautam Gambhir during a domestic match between Delhi and Haryana. Speaking on a podcast with Aakash Chopra, Mishra explained how the disagreement escalated before Gambhir later invited him for dinner.

Mishra and Gambhir have known each other since their early cricketing days, having trained at the same Delhi academy under coach Sanjay Bhardwaj. They also represented India and played together for the Delhi Daredevils, now known as the Delhi Capitals, during the early seasons of the IPL.

Amit Mishra Recalls Heated Exchange with Gautam Gambhir

Amit Mishra recalled that the incident happened during a Delhi-Haryana match when he was taking wickets. Gautam Gambhir was batting at the non-striker's end when the two began exchanging words.

"There was a game between Delhi and Haryana. I got one player out. Before that, he played a cross shot, and Gautam was batting at the other end. We spoke a bit in between, and I told him to be quiet. I asked him what is your problem if I am getting a few wickets. He told me to shut up and bowl. I got angry, and we exchanged words," Mishra said.

Gambhir is currently with the Indian team in New Zealand for a multi-format tour featuring five T20Is, followed by five ODIs and two Tests. Meanwhile, Mishra has been appointed spin bowling coach of the Delhi Capitals for IPL 2027.

Gautam Gambhir Invited Amit Mishra for Cold Coffee After the Argument

Amit Mishra said Gautam Gambhir called him after the match and asked him to join him for dinner. However, Mishra was still upset about their argument and told his former teammate that he had already eaten.

"After the match was over, we went to the hotel, and I went to eat. Gambhir called me and asked what I was doing. I told him nothing. He asked to go for dinner. I was like you were fighting just a while back. I was also angry, so I told him I had already eaten. He then told me not to get angry and said let's go for cold coffee," he added.

"So he is like that on the ground, but if you are his friend, he will come to you later. People think he is like that, but it is actually not like that," Mishra said.

Amit Mishra Praises Gautam Gambhir’s Grounded Nature

During the same podcast, Amit Mishra also highlighted a quality he admired in his former teammate. He said Gautam Gambhir never flaunted his family's wealth or made others feel inferior despite coming from a well-to-do background.

"Gautam had one good thing in him. He never showed that he was from a well-to-do family. That is why he is my friend. My first car was an Alto, and he sat in it with me. He used to have a BMW, but he would come with me in my Alto for practice. He never let me or anyone feel that he was from a well-to-do family," Mishra said.
