Yuvraj Singh revealed that Sourav Ganguly personally asked him to become his assistant at Delhi Capitals ahead of IPL 2027.

The former India all-rounder has joined the franchise as assistant and batting coach after years of mentoring young Indian cricketers.

Former India all-rounder Yuvraj Singh has revealed how Sourav Ganguly approached him about joining Delhi Capitals (DC) coaching staff ahead of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2027 season. Ganguly was recently appointed the franchise’s head coach, with Yuvraj subsequently named assistant and batting coach.

The two share a long history, having worked together during Yuvraj’s playing days for India. The left-hander made his international debut under Ganguly’s captaincy in 2000 and has often praised the former India skipper for his influence on his career.

Yuvraj Singh shares witty response to Ganguly’s offer

Speaking in a video shared on Delhi Capitals’ official YouTube channel, Yuvraj revealed that Ganguly asked him whether he would be willing to become his assistant. The former all-rounder responded with a humorous remark about their long-standing relationship.

“He (Sourav Ganguly) said, ‘Would you be my assistant?’ And I was like, ‘I’ve been your assistant for the last 25 years, so I’ll probably be doing the same job!” Yuvraj said.

Despite the light-hearted response, Yuvraj was happy to accept the opportunity. He explained that he had been preparing for a coaching role over the last three to four years and was excited to work within a complete team environment after mentoring players individually.

Yuvraj set for new coaching challenge at Delhi Capitals

Yuvraj has worked closely with several young Indian batters in recent years, including Abhishek Sharma and Shubman Gill. His experience as an international cricketer and his work with emerging players will be valuable as he takes on a more formal role in the IPL.

The appointment also marks a return to familiar territory for Yuvraj, who represented Delhi Capitals in the 2015 IPL season after being bought for ₹16 crore at the auction. He will now work alongside Ganguly as the franchise prepares for the 2027 campaign.
