Babar Azam's recent batting struggles in the Pakistan ODI Tri-Series have drawn renewed attention after journalist Ejaz Wasim Bakhri claimed that personal issues could be affecting the former Pakistan captain's focus.

The discussion comes as Pakistan prepare for the final stages of the tri-series involving Sri Lanka and England. Babar has struggled to produce a substantial innings in the tournament, but Pakistan have remained competitive, winning three of their first four matches before suffering a heavy defeat against Sri Lanka on October 27.

Babar Azam Struggling in England-Sri Lanka Tri-Series, but Pakistan Winning

Babar Azam has recorded scores of 45, 34, 10 and 29 across his first four matches in the tri-series. His returns have totalled 118 runs, with the former captain yet to register a half-century in the competition.

He scored 45 against Sri Lanka in Pakistan's opening match, followed by 34 against England in Rawalpindi. However, his form dipped in Lahore, where he managed just 10 against England before scoring 29 in the latest meeting with Sri Lanka.

Pakistan had won their first three matches before losing to Sri Lanka by eight wickets. After being dismissed for 110 in 25.3 overs, Pakistan watched Sri Lanka reach 114/2 in just 18.1 overs, completing the chase with 191 balls remaining.

Despite that defeat, Pakistan remained at the top of the points table with six points from four wins and losses combined, having won three matches and lost one. Sri Lanka occupied second place with four points from three completed matches, while England had lost all three of their completed fixtures at that stage.

Babar's individual returns will remain under scrutiny as Pakistan look to finish the tournament strongly.

Babar Azam's Family Matters Revealed Amid Pakistan Star's Form Slump

Journalist Ejaz Wasim Bakhri has suggested that Babar may be dealing with personal issues away from cricket. Speaking about the batter's performances, Bakhri argued that resolving those concerns could help him regain his focus.

“I think it's time we had an open conversation about this, so that perhaps the people close to Babar Azam can also realise what's happening. Babar has some important personal issues that are affecting his focus on the game. His family might deny it, and Babar himself might get upset about it,” Bakhri said.

He continued by linking the alleged personal difficulties to the batter's struggles, while acknowledging that some details would remain private.

“It seems that Babar is dealing with some family-related issues. If he manages to resolve them, his focus could return to cricket. Other than that, I don't see any major reason for his struggles,” he added.

“Here's a player who has scored 16,000 international runs across all three formats for Pakistan, yet he hasn't won a major ICC trophy. Pakistan last won the Champions Trophy in 2017 under Sarfaraz Ahmed's captaincy,” he said.

The journalist added that, as a field reporter, there were things he knew but did not want to discuss publicly.

Pakistan to Lock Horns With Sri Lanka in Tri-Series Final

Pakistan and Sri Lanka are scheduled to meet in the tri-series final at Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore on October 31. Sri Lanka's qualification and Pakistan's position at the top of the table set up another meeting between the two sides, with both teams aiming to finish the competition with the trophy.

For Babar Azam, the final match offers an opportunity to improve his returns after a difficult run. Whether he responds with a substantial innings will be decided on the field.
