BackOn 16 October 1995, Allan Donald completed a devastating bowling performance as the Proteas defeated Zimbabwe by seven wickets in their one-off Test in Harare.
The Proteas quick claimed 3-42 in the first innings before ripping through Zimbabwe’s batting line-up with a career-best 8-71 in the second, finishing with match figures of 11-113.
Zimbabwe were dismissed for 170 in their first innings, with Brett Schultz taking 4-54, before South Africa replied with 346, thanks largely to Andrew Hudson’s 135 off 236 balls and Brian McMillan’s unbeaten 98 off 172.
Donald then took centre stage, dismissing eight of Zimbabwe’s batters as the hosts were bowled out for 283, leaving South Africa needing just 108 runs for victory.
Captain Hansie Cronje struck an unbeaten 56 off 104 balls as the Proteas reached their target with seven wickets to spare, completing a memorable victory inspired by White Lightning.
