BackSouth Africa batting coach Ashwell Prince and Kyle Verreynne have been reprimanded for breaching the ICC Code of Conduct during the third Test against Australia, the ICC has announced.
Both were found to have breached Article 2.8 at Level 1, which covers showing dissent at an umpire’s decision during an international match.
The incident followed the dismissal of Marques Ackerman in South Africa’s second innings on day three.
Ackerman tried to review the caught decision, but the umpires ruled the request had not come within the 15 seconds allowed.
Prince shouted repeatedly at the umpires that there was still time to take the review, while Verreynne, who was not in the XI, asked Ackerman to stay inside the boundary. That delayed Ackerman’s exit from the field.
Each receives one demerit point on their disciplinary record, as these were first offences in a 24-month period.
Both admitted the offences and accepted the sanctions proposed by match referee Javagal Srinath, so no hearings were needed.
The charges were laid by on-field umpires Richard Illingworth and Richard Kettleborough, third umpire Chris Gaffaney and fourth umpire Lubabalo Gcuma.
Four demerit points within 24 months convert into suspension points, and a player can be banned.
