Boxer from Old Colwyn set to fight at AO Arena in Manchester

Ryan “The Butcher” MacMillan, 32, has won six out of six bouts (including three by knockout) since turning pro two years ago.

On Saturday, November 7, he will face Grant Dennis at the AO Arena in Manchester, in the undercard to the Willy Hutchinson v Joshua Buatsi WBC world title fight.

If he wins, Ryan will earn a multi-fight contract with Frank Warren’s Queensberry Promotions.

He said: “I started boxing in about 2020. I was a troubled person, and I’d had a few ups and downs in my personal life.

"I had a brief spell in mixed martial arts, but I knew boxing was for me as soon as I took it up.

"I then opened my own gym, and trained in schools and probation centres. I even built a gym in Uganda, which was a really good community hub.

"Two years ago, I decided to go pro. I had 30 fights before turning professional, and it was only the start of this year that I got a really good team and coach behind me.

"We’re now on one on the biggest stages and platforms in the UK.”

Ryan, who has previously boxed on DAZN, will be backed by hundreds of supporters at the AO Arena.

The fight represents the “biggest opportunity of my career so far,” he said.

“It’s been a mad journey, but we’re finally getting somewhere now,” Ryan added.

“I think I’m the only current undefeated professional boxer in North Wales.

"It would change my life. Hopefully, this is the take-off moment.”

Among those backing Ryan is Simon Jones, of PKS Watersports in Rhyl, who he described as a “good friend and sponsor”.

Simon said Ryan’s latest fight comes after “years of hard work and dedication”.

He added: “Ryan is a local lad from North Wales, teaching people (boxing) in his spare time from the ages of six to 60 years old, while living in his dream of becoming a world champion, training hard daily, and sharing his passion with others.

"Now is his time to show Wales we really do have the next contender.

"He really deserves us locals to get behind him.”
