Chennai Super Kings (CSK) fans have questioned the franchise’s decision to trade Khaleel Ahmed and Nathan Ellis to Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) for Liam Livingstone and Jack Edwards.
As confirmed by iplt20.com, Khaleel and Ellis will join SRH at their existing fees of INR 4.8 crore and 2 crore respectively. England all-rounder Livingstone will join CSK at a reduced fee of INR 6 crore, down from INR 13 crore. Australia all-rounder Edwards joins at his existing fee of INR 3 crore.
Edwards will be looking to make a mark in IPL 2027 after a foot injury ruled him out of the 2026 season. Livingstone is seeking consistency as he has shown only glimpses of his best in the IPL and has struggled to make an impact in recent seasons. Since the start of 2024, the all-rounder has scored 238 runs at an average of 17 and strike rate of 127.3.
Fans online have questioned CSK’s decision-making. While there is still time to build a strong squad for IPL 2027, trading two first-choice bowlers has been met with criticism.
“Khaleel was the best bowler of CSK & Ellis has been consistent over the years for Australia, how can you gift two quality bowlers, very poor,” wrote one fan on X (formerly Twitter).
“Why would you even trade two of your main XII bowlers, out of which one is an Indian for two from their bench and both being overseas options? Can only pray whatever they’ve planned in their minds come off good or else it’s going to be funny couple of months,” wrote another.
Here are some of the reactions.
SHOCKING, WHAT HAVE YOU DONE CSK ❌

Best death bowler gone
CSK, why don't you ban yourself for another 2 years and save us from the misery?
Why would you even trade two of your main XII bowlers, out of which one is an Indian for two from their bench and both being overseas options? Can only pray whatever they've planned in their minds come off good or else it's going to be funny couple of months.

This has to be one of the most bizarre trade deals in IPL history.

SRH have played this incredibly smart. Meanwhile, CSK seem to have made a fool of themselves.
SRH have let go of two players who don't even fit into their ecosystem and are getting Khaleel Ahmed and Nathan Ellis… https://t.co/nokcQtXUSp
Ellis wanted to leave i suppose but we could have negotiated a way better trade tbf. Especially when we are giving a indian pacer should have got someone like Harsh Dube.

CSK surprised everyone. Everyone thought they can only have bad auction, but they went a step further and came up with a trade I wish to forget. 🔥🔥🔥

I would say SRH won here… CSK let go a fine powerplay bowler and also a pretty good death bowler 😭 https://t.co/g40VvefYWt

Gave away their entire bowling lineup for an all-rounder who is at the end of his career and another who is at the start of his career. https://t.co/ES9hHCryS8
Khaleel + Ellis given away lol. SRH will be delighted.

CSK what are they smoking? https://t.co/VbRO4v7hJm
All-timer from CSK this. The absolute worst trade in IPL history perhaps https://t.co/ERC94Y8JuF

Trading Nathan Ellis away!? What kind of absolute brain-dead decision is this!? Who the heck is making these ridiculous calls at CSK!? Just ban this team for the next 10 years, someone. 😭 They have absolutely no business running a cricket franchise!

How did CSK even agreed to do this trade? 🤣🤣

SRH really won this deal. https://t.co/YbOm4FgcIF
We used lose confidence on the management only after the IPL, first time we’ve lost it even before retentions.

The IPL 2027 mini-auction is scheduled for December 16 in Goa.
