India and West Indies are set for a high-stakes showdown in the fifth and final T20I at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru on Saturday, October 17. With the five-match series locked at 2-2, both teams will be desperate to deliver a complete performance and claim the series trophy.

India will enter the decider under pressure after suffering a 24-run defeat in Hyderabad, while West Indies will draw confidence from their powerful batting display and impressive bowling performance. Although India have home advantage, the visitors have shown they possess enough firepower to challenge the hosts.

India vs West Indies 5th T20I: Match details

  • Match: India vs West Indies, 5th T20I
  • Date: October 17, 2026
  • Venue: M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bengaluru
  • Start time: 7:00 pm IST
  • Series score: 2-2
  • India captain: Shreyas Iyer
  • West Indies captain: Shai Hope

India need their bowlers to step up

India’s biggest concern heading into the decider is their bowling performance. The team conceded 247/3 in the fourth T20I, with West Indies captain Shai Hope producing another outstanding century.

Hope smashed an unbeaten 102, while Sherfane Rutherford contributed 49 not out from 26 deliveries. Their aggressive approach kept India under pressure throughout the innings and left the hosts with a difficult target.

India responded with 223 but fell short by 24 runs. Sanju Samson’s explosive 56 off 23 balls gave the chase early momentum, but Keemo Paul’s five-wicket haul disrupted India’s progress.

The return of Bhuvneshwar Kumar could prove important. The experienced seamer has been recalled for the decider after Arshdeep Singh suffered a shoulder injury. Bhuvneshwar’s swing bowling and experience in the powerplay and death overs could help India regain control.

All-round West Indies looking to dominate

West Indies have demonstrated remarkable batting power throughout the series. Their successful chase of 250 in Ranchi showed their ability to handle pressure, while the fourth T20I victory proved that their bowlers can also defend a big total.

Shai Hope has been one of the standout performers, scoring two centuries during the series. Rutherford has also delivered crucial contributions, making the visitors dangerous even when their captain does not dominate.

The key for West Indies will be to maintain their attacking approach without losing wickets in clusters. Their bowlers will also need to repeat the discipline shown by Paul in Hyderabad.

IND vs WI 5th T20I prediction: Who will win today’s match?

India have the advantage of playing at home, and the return of Bhuvneshwar Kumar could strengthen their bowling attack. If their bowlers execute their plans more accurately and their top order delivers a strong start, the hosts have a good chance of winning the decider.

However, West Indies have earned their place in the contest through consistent power-hitting and an improved bowling performance. Hope’s form and the team’s depth make them a serious threat.

Prediction: India are slight favourites to win the fifth T20I, provided they improve their bowling and the weather allows a full match. West Indies could turn the contest in their favour if Hope and Rutherford produce another substantial contribution.

The series is finely balanced, and the team that handles the pressure better in the powerplay and death overs is likely to lift the trophy.
