The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 once again delivered a moment that caught attention beyond the boundary ropes, as Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) locked horns in a high-scoring contest at Chepauk. While the match itself had plenty of twists, it was a separate moment from Raipur that quickly went viral and became one of the most talked-about scenes of the day.

As Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) prepared for their upcoming clash against Mumbai Indians (MI), Virat Kohli was seen briefly pausing his training session to follow proceedings unfolding in Chennai, where a young batter was producing something special under the lights.

Urvil Patel storms into record books with explosive fifty at Chepauk

While Lucknow Super Giants posted a massive 203/8, with a stunning 85 off 33 balls from Josh Inglis, the evening truly belonged to Urvil Patel. Walking in after an early wicket, the CSK batter changed the course of the match almost instantly, smashing a breathtaking 65 off just 23 deliveries. Urvil raced to his fifty in just 13 balls, equalling the fastest half-century in IPL history. His innings included a brutal assault on Avesh Khan and Digvesh Singh Rathi, as he cleared the boundary repeatedly and brought up six sixes in just his first eight deliveries, a first in IPL history.

The right-hander eventually fell after a fiery knock, but not before leaving Chepauk stunned and the cricket world in disbelief. One of the most touching moments came after his fifty, when he revealed a handwritten note reading, “This is for you, Papa” dedicating the milestone to his father.

Virat Kohli was spotted reacting to Urvil’s knock

As Urvil continued his carnage at Chepauk, a video from Raipur went viral showing Virat following the innings during RCB’s training session ahead of their clash against the Mumbai Indians. The moment quickly gained attention as the veteran batter appeared fully locked into the action, watching the young CSK player’s breakthrough performance unfold in real time. The clip of Kohli observing the innings became one of the most shared visuals of the day, adding another layer of intrigue to an already high-profile IPL evening.

Here’s the video:

CSK complete chase despite late LSG fightback

Despite Urvil’s fireworks, Chennai Super Kings still had work to finish in the chase. Ruturaj Gaikwad anchored the innings with a steady 42, while Shivam Dube provided the finishing touches with two towering sixes in the final over to seal a five-wicket win with four balls remaining.

Earlier, the LSG total was built around a record-breaking knock from Josh Inglis, which included the fastest fifty ever at Chepauk. However, Chennai’s bowling unit, led by a three-wicket spell from Jamie Overton, pulled things back in the middle overs before the batting unit completed the job under pressure.
