Prithvi Shaw has been retained as Maharashtra's captain despite Ruturaj Gaikwad making his return for their next Ranji Trophy game against Jharkhand. Ruturaj missed the first game of the season due to his India A commitments. Shaw-led Maharashtra made a winning start in the away game against Services. Opting to bat first, Services put on a total of 333 on the board, with Shaw scoring 70 in the first innings. Domestic cricket legend Ankit Bawne scored 118 off 248 balls in the total while Vicky Ostwal slammed a half-century.

Hitesh Walunj took a five-fer as Maharashtra bowled out Services for 227, taking the first-innings lead. Bawne scored 48 in the second innings as Maharashtra were bowled out for 141, setting a targetof 248 for the home team.

Vicky shone with the ball in the second innings and took a five-fer as they bowled out the home team for 120 to register a 127-run win. Bawne was awarded the Player of the Match award for his heroics.

Likely reason behind retaining Shaw

Ruturaj, who was part of the ODI series against West Indies, is likely to keep his position for the New Zealand tour. This seems to be the probable reason behind Maharashtra retaining Shaw as the captain. The ODI will leave for NZ in the last week of October.

The Pragyan Ojha-headed selection panel has only announced the T20I squad thus far. The selection panel is likely to name the ODI and Test teams next week.

The fifth selector could also be part of the selection meeting. The BCCI will soon name Ajit Agarkar's replacement in the selection panel.

The India tour of NZ will kick off with five T20Is, to be played on October 22, 24, 27, 30 and November 1. The five ODIs will take place on November 4, 7, 10, 13 and 15. The two Tests will start on November 19 and 27.
