India batter Jemimah Rodrigues has taken up a new off-field role, becoming Switzerland Tourism’s Friendship Ambassador for India as she continues her recovery from a hamstring injury. The appointment was announced in Bengaluru on October 15 in the presence of Switzerland Tourism CEO Martin Nydegger. Through the association, Rodrigues will showcase the European country's attractions across all four seasons.

Known for her infectious energy and vibrant personality, Rodrigues will explore Switzerland’s popular tourist destinations as well as lesser-known locations, introducing Indian audiences to its cultural experiences, outdoor adventures and seasonal attractions. The campaign aims to encourage Indian travellers to discover the country beyond its familiar tourist hotspots.

“Representing India has always been something very special to me, and wherever I travel, I carry a little bit of home with me. I’m looking forward to meeting people, trying new things, exploring different places, and sharing those moments with everyone back home,” Rodrigues said.

The new association comes as the Indian cricketer works her way back to full fitness following a significant injury setback.

JEMIMAH’S INJURY SETBACK

Rodrigues has been out of action since sustaining a high-grade tear in her right hamstring while playing for Southern Brave in The Hundred on August 3. The injury forced her to withdraw from the remainder of the competition, having scored 143 runs in six innings at a strike rate of 131.19, including back-to-back Player of the Match performances.

The setback proved costly for India, with Rodrigues subsequently missing the Women's Asia Cup and the Asian Games. She will also miss India's T20I and ODI series against Zimbabwe, extending her spell on the sidelines.

Her absence has deprived India of an important middle-order option, given her ability to adapt to different match situations and accelerate when required. Rodrigues is currently undergoing rehabilitation and has been sharing videos on Instagram of her intensive gym sessions and batting practice in the nets as she works towards a return to action.

Rodrigues will be hoping to regain full fitness in time for India's tour of South Africa later this year. In her absence, the likes of Niki Prasad, Jintimani Kalita, Anushka Sharma and Gunalan Kamalini will look to make the most of their opportunities as India prepare for the T20I series against Zimbabwe.
