BackIndia and the West Indies have saved their biggest match for last.
The visitors levelled the series 2-2 by beating India by 24 runs in the fourth T20I in Hyderabad, and the series is now heading towards its conclusion in Bengaluru for the fifth T20I.
Shai Hope scored an unbeaten 102 off 50 balls, while West Indies set a target of 247/3, and India were bowled out for 223.
Weather could now play a part as well. The forecast for Saturday shows a real chance of showers in the evening. Dew is the other talking point, because it changed the second T20I in Ranchi and could make the toss decisive again. Here is what to expect in Bengaluru.
Yes, dew is expected to be a factor at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium. Evening humidity is forecast at around 85%, and the dew point is about 20°C. The temperature is expected to fall from about 23°C at 7pm to about 22°C by 10pm.
That narrows the gap to the dew point from 3°C to 2°C as the night goes on. It points to a wet ball in the second innings. A wet outfield also makes it harder to defend a total.
Ranchi showed what that can look like. Heavy dew made it hard for India's spinners, Axar Patel and Kuldeep Yadav, to control the ball. The West Indies chased 252 against India's 249/5 and finished with nine balls to spare.
The toss could be worth more than usual. Teams batting second have won four of nine international matches at the Chinnaswamy, and teams batting first have won three. Two ended with no result. The boundaries are short, at about 54 metres square and 70 metres straight.
Saturday, October 17, is forecast to be warm and humid, with sunny intervals through the day. The Met Office shows a high of 27°C and a low of 21°C. Temperatures during the match are expected to stay between 22°C and 24°C, which averages out at about 23°C.
Humidity is forecasted to be between 83% and 95%. The wind is light, at 4 to 5 mph (roughly 6 to 8 km/h), with gusts of 7 to 9 mph during the match. Rain is a concern, with a 50% chance at the 7.30pm slot, easing to 40% by 10.30pm.
As per the Met Office, the chance of rain is highest before the toss, at 70% around 4.30pm and 5.30pm.
It drops to 60% by 6.30pm and 50% at the 7.30pm slot. Light showers are forecast until about 8pm, and skies turn partly cloudy from 8.30pm to 10.30pm.
If rain affects the fifth T20I in Bengaluru, the match could be delayed or shortened. The Duckworth-Lewis-Stern method will be used to set a revised target. A minimum of five overs per side is needed for a result.
There is no reserve day for the match, so a washed-out game would be abandoned without a result. With the series level at 2-2, it would then end as a draw.
The India vs. West Indies fifth T20I will be played at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. The match will start at 7pm IST on Saturday, October 17, 2026, with the toss at 6.30pm IST.
