BackIndia’s young batter Vaibhav Sooryavanshi has not got a chance to play in the T20I series against the West Indies so far. The 15-year-old was left out of the playing XI in the first four matches, with India preferring Sanju Samson and Abhishek Sharma as their opening pair.
Vaibhav got an opportunity to play for India in the 2026 Asian Games. However, he has been on the bench during the ongoing T20I series. Ahead of the fifth and final match in Bengaluru on Saturday (October 17), the young batter shared a post on Instagram that caught the attention of fans.
Ahead of the series decider, Vaibhav shared a picture from the Asia Cup Rising Stars tournament on his Instagram story. Along with the picture, the left-handed batter wrote, “Still Believing.”
The message suggests that the young batter remains hopeful despite not getting an opportunity in the ongoing series. India and the West Indies have won two matches each, making the fifth T20I important for both teams.
Vaibhav will hope to get a chance to play for India in the final match. However, his selection will depend on the team’s plans and the playing conditions in Bengaluru.
India have preferred their regular opening combination of Sanju Samson and Abhishek Sharma in the series. This has made it difficult for Vaibhav to find a place in the playing XI.
During the Asian Games, India played with one fewer bowler, which helped Vaibhav get an opportunity. His selection also affected the batting order, with Samson moving to number three and Ishan Kishan batting at number five.
India have returned to their regular team combination for the West Indies series. As a result, Vaibhav has not found a place in the team despite his impressive performances in the past.
Vaibhav made his T20I debut for India during the tour of England. The 15-year-old has played eight T20I matches so far, scoring 246 runs at an average of 30.75 and a strike rate of 186. He has also scored two half-centuries.
Although he struggled during the England tour, Vaibhav bounced back during India’s tour of Zimbabwe. He scored both his T20I half-centuries on that tour and won the Player of the Series award for his performances.
His performances have shown his ability to score runs quickly at a young age. However, he will have to wait for another opportunity to prove himself in the ongoing series against the West Indies.
With the series level at 2-2, India will look to win the final match in Bengaluru. Whether Vaibhav gets a chance in the series decider remains to be seen.
