India Announces ODI Squad for New Zealand Tour with Shubman Gill as Captain

India's ODI Squad for New Zealand Tour Revealed

Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India], October 16: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has unveiled the One Day International (ODI) squad for the upcoming tour of New Zealand. Shubman Gill will captain the team for the first three ODIs, while Shreyas Iyer will take over leadership for the last two matches.

Gill is set to lead the squad in the initial three ODIs before he shifts focus to prepare for the following Test series.

Iyer, who has been appointed as vice-captain for the first three games, will step up as captain for the fourth and fifth ODIs.

Notably, Jasprit Bumrah, the leading fast bowler, has been excluded from the ODI lineup but is included in the Test squad for the tour.

Additionally, veteran all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja, who participated in the recent home ODI series against the West Indies, has also been omitted from the squad.

The five-match ODI series is set to commence in Auckland on November 4, with the second and third matches taking place in Wellington and Hamilton, respectively. The final two ODIs will be held in Mount Maunganui on November 13 and 15.

Fast bowler Anshul Kamboj has received a call-up for the first three matches, while wicketkeeper-batter Kumar Kushagra has been included for the last two ODIs.

Prasidh Krishna's inclusion for the initial three ODIs is contingent upon passing a fitness test.

The batting lineup features seasoned players such as Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, along with Shubman Gill, Shreyas Iyer, KL Rahul, Ishan Kishan, and Ruturaj Gaikwad, providing a strong mix of experience and depth.

On the bowling front, Mohammed Siraj will lead the attack, supported by spinners Axar Patel and Kuldeep Yadav. Young pacers Anshul Kamboj and Gurnoor Brar are also part of the squad.

The BCCI has also announced the Test squad for the tour, with Gill as captain and KL Rahul serving as vice-captain.

The batting order includes Yashasvi Jaiswal, Devdutt Padikkal, and Sai Sudharsan, while Rishabh Pant and Dhruv Jurel are available as wicketkeeping options, pending Pant's fitness clearance.

In the bowling department, the squad features Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj, Prasidh Krishna, Akash Deep, and Anshul Kamboj to bolster the pace attack.

All-rounders Ravindra Jadeja, Nitish Kumar Reddy, and Washington Sundar, along with spinner Kuldeep Yadav, complete the squad, ensuring a balanced mix of pace, spin, and all-round capabilities.
