BackThe Indian team hit a four-year low as the five-match T20I series against West Indies ended in a 2-2 draw after the fifth game in Bengaluru at the Chinnaswamy Stadium on Saturday (October 17) was washed out due to rain and led to a no result, despite a sold-out crowd turning out for the first international match at the venue after two years.
After the game started two hours and 15 minutes late and was reduced to a nine-over-per-side game, the hosts got 7.4 overs to bat after Shai Hope won the toss and chose to bowl. The Men in Blue were 118-5 when rain returned, leading to the umpires calling off the game.
India's Four-Year Winning Streak Ends
This is the first time in four years that India have failed to win a home series in T20I cricket. The last instance of the same happening was in June 2022 when they played South Africa. That series had also ended 2-2 and, interestingly, also finished with the fifth game ending in a washout. The series decider, which finished with no result, also took place in Bengaluru.
In the period in between, India won 11 consecutive home bilateral T20I series in a streak that started in September 2022 (1483 days ago) against Australia (2-1 win). Alongside all the bilaterals, the Men in Blue also played the 2026 T20 World Cup on home soil and lifted the trophy.

In the period between the two instances of India not winning a home T20I series, there have been three T20 World Cups held (2022, 2024, 2026), and two of them have been won by the Men in Blue. However, India have extended their unbeaten run, with their last home T20I series defeat still coming in February 2019 against Australia.
Meanwhile, West Indies have become only the second team after South Africa (June 2022) to play a five-match T20I series in India and leave without losing the series. They join only England (3-2 win for India) in 2021, South Africa (2-0 defeat for India in 2015), and Australia (2-0 defeat for India in 2019) as teams that have managed to win multiple matches in a T20I series in India.
This is the first time in 24 years (since a 4-3 ODI series win in 2022) that West Indies have finished a bilateral series in India without defeat.
