The match had already lost around two hours of playing time because of rain, forcing the officials to reduce the contest to 9 overs per side. India began their innings at the Chinnaswamy Stadium, hoping to post a competitive total in the shortened game. However, the rain returned when India had reached 118/5 after 7.4 overs, preventing the innings from being completed.
Ground staff had worked to prepare the field after the rain eased, raising hopes that the match could resume. However, persistent showers continued to disrupt proceedings, and the conditions did not allow the game to continue.
With no further play possible, the officials eventually called off the 5th T20I. The abandonment meant neither team could secure a series victory, with India and the West Indies finishing the five-match contest level at 2-2.
