Jasprit Bumrah, Akash Deep and Anshul Kamboj Return to India’s Test Squad for New Zealand Tour

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced India’s Test squad for the two-match series against New Zealand, with Jasprit Bumrah, Akash Deep and Anshul Kamboj returning to the team. However, promising fast bowler Gurnoor Brar has missed out despite his recent performances.

Rishabh Pant has also been included in the squad, subject to fitness clearance, as he recovers from a left-rib injury.

Bumrah Returns to Test Cricket

Jasprit Bumrah last played a Test match for India against South Africa in November 2025. His return will strengthen India’s pace attack ahead of the New Zealand series.

Akash Deep has recently returned to the field after recovering from a lower-back injury. His last Test appearance came during India’s 2025 tour of England, where he delivered an impressive performance.

Anshul Kamboj, who made his Test debut in England, has also returned to the squad. Both Akash Deep and Kamboj are part of the India A team scheduled to play three multi-day matches against New Zealand A before the Test series.

The team management will be hoping that the fast bowlers adapt well to conditions in New Zealand.

Rishabh Pant’s Selection Subject to Fitness Clearance

Wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant has been selected subject to receiving fitness clearance. He is recovering from an injury to his left ribs.

The squad also includes captain Shubman Gill, vice-captain KL Rahul, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Ravindra Jadeja, Mohammed Siraj, Kuldeep Yadav and Washington Sundar.

Shubman Gill and Shreyas Iyer to Share ODI Captaincy

India’s five-match ODI series against New Zealand will begin on November 4, while the two-Test series will start on November 19.

Shubman Gill will captain India in the first three ODIs before shifting his focus to preparations for Test cricket. KL Rahul will also prioritise red-ball preparation after the third ODI.

Shreyas Iyer will lead the team in the fourth and fifth ODIs.

Tilak Varma has returned to the ODI squad after last representing India in the 50-over format in December 2025. Wicketkeeper-batter Kumar Kushagra has received his maiden India call-up for the final two ODIs.

Experienced all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja has not been included in the ODI squad.

India’s tour of New Zealand will feature five T20 Internationals, five ODIs and two Test matches.
