BackIndia have recalled fast bowlers Akash Deep and Anshul Kamboj for the two-match Test series against New Zealand as announced on Friday. Meanwhile, Shreyas Iyer will take charge of the ODI team for the final two fixtures with regular skipper Shubman Gill turning his attention to preparations for the upcoming red-ball assignment.
Akash Deep has resumed competitive cricket following his recovery from a lower back stress fracture. The right arm seamer last represented India during the 2025 England tour where he delivered promising performances. Meanwhile Anshul Kamboj lost his place after a disappointing first outing in England last year. Both pacers have also been selected for India A’s three multi-day fixtures against New Zealand A, which will serve as preparation for the senior team’s Test assignment. The Indian management will be hoping the pair can adapt effectively to local conditions and strengthen the bowling attack.
Despite his recent strong performances, Gurnoor Brar has been left out of India’s Test lineup. Wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant has made the cut although his selection remains conditional on passing a fitness assessment as he recovers from a left-sided rib injury. Meanwhile, premier fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah will feature exclusively in the red-ball leg of India’s multi-format campaign in New Zealand.
Shreyas Iyer will take charge of India for the final two matches of the five game ODI series in New Zealand as Shubman Gill turns his attention to preparations for the upcoming Tests. The 50 overs leg begins on November 4th while the two match Test series is scheduled to get underway on November 19th.
KL Rahul is another established ODI player who will switch his attention to the longer format after the third match. Tilak Varma has also returned to the 50-over setup having last featured in an ODI in December 2025. Meanwhile, wicketkeeper batter Kumar Kushagra has received his maiden national call-up and will be available for the final two matches. Experienced all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja however has been omitted from the ODI lineup. India’s New Zealand tour will comprise five T20Is, five ODIs and two Test matches.
